Meet our Team Members:
Every month we will be selecting a team member for our Employee Spotlight.
This month we’re introducing Luke Brown. Luke is an EMT on C-Shift that has been serving with Greenville County EMS since December of 2020.
What is your favorite quote, saying, or motto?
“You can catch many flies with honey, but you can catch more honeys by looking fly.”
What is your greatest achievement in life so far?
I had the opportunity to present some research that I had a large hand in at a regional conference.
What is your #1 pet peeve?
Bad parking, especially in relatively small cars, bothers me because it only takes a few seconds to correct.
What is your most memorable moment in your EMS career?
I once cleared a partial airway obstruction by hitting a large pothole.
What is your favorite movie or play?
I rarely have the attention span for movies, but enjoyed Parks & Recreation.
What would constitute a perfect EMS crew member?
I appreciate partners that contribute to an open dialogue throughout patient care. Involvement from both providers can help to minimize anchoring/bias.
What is your best kept secret?
I legally have three middle names, so my full name is Luke Edward Franklin Lee Brown.
What would you consider your worst habit?
As seen in answer 10, I could probably stand to cut back on caffeine.
Greatest inspiration in your life?
My mother has a strong work ethic and is a very influential person in my life.
What is your favorite food item?
You can always find me with a cup of coffee or energy drink, so I would have to say anything caffeinated.
What would be considered luxury to you?
My favorite luxury that I have seen at the department is the automatic cot fasteners. The reduced risk
of injury to both crews and patients has been reassuring, and the ability to safely lift heavier patients with fewer personnel has been a great asset on busy scenes.
If you could meet anyone in the history of the world, who and why?
I would probably want to meet Nikola Tesla. I would be interested to know if he approached his ideas more intuitively or systematically.
What would your epitaph say?
I hope to be known as someone who has invested both in individuals and my community as a whole. However, I also hope that I am
too far removed from that time to give an exact answer of what those investments will have looked like.
What is your favorite type of music?
I think music is a great tool to convey emotion, and I enjoy any kind of music that leads to any type of emotional response. Personally, this crosses many genres and subject matters.
Where would you like to grow old?
I am not sure that I have a strong preference on location, but I intend to build a life around my family and close friends.
