Congratulations to our Engineering and Public Works staff for being recognized for excellence in their field. The American Council of Engineering Companies
has named the Xanthene Norris Pedestrian Bridge a 2021 State Finalist for their Engineering Excellence Award. The “Norris Bridge” connects City View/Southernside
neighborhoods to downtown Greenville allowing for safe pedestrian passage over multiple Norfolk Southern rail lines. It was opened in March of 2020. The bridge, its
importance to the community, and the subsequent award epitomize this division’s mission of doing work that exceeds industry standards.
Along with bridges, drainage, an engineering services, the Greenville County Engineering & Maintenance Division is also responsible for maintaining more than 1,800
miles of roads. On average, the County resurfaces more than 150 roads per year. To maximize life expectancy of County roads, and ensure safe surface conditions, the
