This month we’re introducing Daisha Kinlow-Collins. Daisha is a Communications Training Specialist on B-Shift and has been working with Greenville County since 2016.

What is your favorite quote, saying, or motto?

“I’m bruised but I’m not broken!”

What is your greatest achievement in life so far?

My greatest achievement in life is surviving childhood. I made it out!

What is your #1 pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve is having someone talk for you when you are the one getting asked the questions.

What is your most memorable moment in your EMS career?

My most memorable moment in EMS has not been a call, but the community outreach activities. Black people are very much surprised to see someone that look like them in a uniform, and I’m only a dispatcher. I can only imagine the surprise when they see an EMT/Paramedic walk in their house. Most people won’t understand or get what I am saying and that is ok! Statistically speaking, African Americans only make up 6.9% of First Responders. Someone once stated, “We can change crime if we change the economic platform in the Black community.” I’m doing it for the culture!

What is your favorite movie or play?

Love and Basketball

What would constitute a perfect EMS crew member?

Someone who is not afraid to joke around and relax. This job is too stressful to be up tight.

What is your best kept secret?

I like a little dap of barbeque sauce to touch the macaroni and cheese on my plate.

What would you consider your worst habit?

Biting nails.

Greatest inspiration in your life?

My greatest inspiration is my parents. They have showed me the wrong ways to be a parent, which have inspired me to be the best that I can be.

What is your favorite food item?

French fries

What would be considered luxury to you?

Luxury to me are the fuzzy socks with the hard bottoms. It’s the little things.

If you could meet anyone in the history of the world, who and why?

The one and only Mariska Hargitay! On and off the screen she is an advocate for sexual assault and I’m a huge fan of that.

What would your epitaph say?

Let’s be honest, I had to look up the word “Epitaph.” It would say, “She gave her all!”

What is your favorite type of music?

My favorite type of music would have to be 90’s R&B. There could never be another “My My My,” by Johnny Gill.

Where would you like to grow old?

The where is not as important than the who. Because I can grow old anywhere as long as my who is there. Who is my Husband! Not a question but a comment.
