In 2023, Greenville County saw a significant increase in illegal waste tire dumping. This concerning trend, with some areas experiencing thousands of dumped tires, led to the development of the Waste Tire Hauler Ordinance.

The Ordinance's Goals:

  • Protect Our Community: By regulating waste tire haulers, the ordinance aims to reduce illegal dumping and the associated cleanup costs, protecting property owners and taxpayers.
  • Enhance Waste Tire Tracking: A more effective and transparent system will track waste tire movement within Greenville County, helping deter illegal dumping and ensure proper disposal.

 

Requirements
Waste Tire Hauler Tires2

The Waste Tire Hauler Ordinance applies to anyone who transports 15 or more waste tires at once within Greenville County.
This includes tires that:

  • Originated in Greenville County
  • Will be stored, processed, or disposed of in Greenville County


  • Tire hauling businesses

  • Companies transporting used tires for recycling or disposal

  • Construction or demolition companies removing large quantities of tires from a site

 

 

Registration Process
Waste Tire Hauler Permit Decal

To obtain a Waste Tire Hauler Decal in Greenville County, you will need to first register with SCDHEC, then (if applicable) get a Business Registration Letter from Greenville County Real Property Service. Once you have both of those then you quantify to register with Greenville County Sheriff’s Office for a decal.



  • The annual Greenville County Waste Tire Hauler Decal fee is $100

  • The replacement fee for a lost or destroyed Waster Tire Hauler Decal is $15.00


 

 

Enforcement
  • Waste tire haulers must have a valid Greenville County Waste Tire Hauler Certificate to dispose of tires at the Twin Chimney Landfill.
  • Law enforcement can stop vehicles transporting more than 15 tires without a decal. Violators may receive a misdemeanor citation with fines up to [information coming] and potential imprisonment for up to [information coming]. Each day of violation is considered a separate offense.
