Inmate Mail

The Detention Center has contracted with a vendor to have all personal inmate mail sent to an off-site location and scanned into an electronic system. The mail will then be made available to the addressed inmates to view on kiosks located inside of their housing units. In order to ensure expedited delivery; inmate postal mail (postcards, letters, greeting cards, etc.) must be addressed as detailed below:

Full Name
Address
City, State, Zip Code

INMATE NAME-ID NUMBER
C/O Securus Digital Mail Center-Greenville
PO Box 21665
Tampa, FL 33622

No photographs will be accepted through the postal mail. All verified legal mail, money orders, bank statements mailed directly from a financial institution will continue to be sent directly to the Detention Center, which is located at 20 McGee Street Greenville, SC 29601. All mail will be searched for contraband. All legal mail is opened in the presence of the inmate and searched for contraband prior to the inmate receiving it.

Providing or attempting to provide contraband, (as defined by SC Law #24-13-150), to an inmate is a felony and violators will be prosecuted. These incidents will also be reported to a US Postal Inspector for review. The Detention Center does not censor or inspect outgoing mail prior to the mail being transferred to the U.S. Postal Service and does not accept responsibility for the contents of outgoing mail.

Important Notice

Effective August 01, 2026

The Greenville County Detention Center values the connection between those in our care and their families and loved ones. We know that staying in touch and offering support matters, and we want to make sure you have the information you need.

Beginning August 1, 2026, the Detention Center will no longer accept Amazon packages — or packages from any other retailer — addressed to inmates. Any such packages received on or after this date will be rejected and returned to the sender.

This change helps us keep everyone safe. Packages sent through online retailers can be used, sometimes without the sender’s knowledge, to introduce unsafe or prohibited items into the facility. Inspecting the contents of the growing number of these packages poses significant safety and security concerns. Limiting how items enter the facility allows us to uphold our mission to maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone connected to our facility, including inmates, staff, and visitors alike. Books and other publications will remain available to all inmates through the facility library. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Inmates may receive funds through the U.S. Mail, but only in the form of U.S. Postal and Western Union money orders made payable to the Detention Center, in care of the inmate. We do not accept cash through the mail for deposit. Any cash received will be placed in an inmate's personal property and will not be credited to the inmate's account or returned to the sender. For other forms of deposit, please refer to our Money Deposits page.

Acceptable paperback books and magazines may be donated to the Detention Center at the Reception Control window (Public Lobby), 20 McGee St. between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., seven days a week.

Inmates may purchase envelopes and writing materials through the inmate commissary service; indigent inmates may order these materials, on a routine schedule with costs being debited from their accounts.
