Aladdin Street
Aladdin Street Project Overview

Part of the larger effort by the County to remove people and houses from floodplains, 107 Aladdin Street was among those acquisitions. This property falls within the Reedy River watershed and is therefore an important component of the County’s overarching goal to reduce nutrients in the river and generally improve water quality.

A small bioretention cell (about 600 sf) is proposed for this location, whose topography and drainage area are well suited for this type of treatment. The open and completely grassed parcel is situated in a corner between a single-family home and a densely wooded area.

There's also a tributary flowing through what was the previous home’s backyard with most of the parcel’s drainage area being conveyed through roadside channels. This makes it particularly easy to route water into the constructed bioretention cell and treat runoff from the 1 acre of nearly entirely impervious area (County Road) draining to the parcel.

Update: This project has been awarded to TEPDB OPCO, LLC (Piedmont Utility Group) and will soon go into construction.
