Terms and Conditions for using Lost2Found text app.
Step 1
Click on the link above to look to see if an owner has reported the cat you found as missing.
Step 2
If you have not already done so, text FOUND to 864-467-3950. This provides all of the information you need to help you reunite the cat you found with its lost owner.
Step 3
If you cannot text, follow this checklist below.
- Fill out a found pet report on our website.
- If the cat is wearing a tag with a phone number, call and send a text. People tend to be more responsive to texts than phone calls from unknown callers.
- Look through the list of cats reported missing by their owners to see if you can find a match.
- Check for a microchip by having the found pet scanned at a local shelter, vet, or fire department.
- Go to Nextdoor, find your neighborhood, and post a picture and description of the cat you found. Scroll through your neighbor posts to see if any of your neighbors lost a cat and posted it there.
- There are many Facebook pages and websites that you can post pictures of the cat you found. You can also search to see if anyone has posted their missing cat.
- PawBoost is like an AMBER Alert for lost pets. Millions of pet lovers have joined their Rescue Squad by signing up for localized lost & found pet alerts. More importantly, PawBoost has helped reunite over 1 million pets with their families. Posting is free, with optional premium services available.
- Go to Craigslist Lost and Found postings to see if anyone has lost a cat like the one you have found. You can also post a lost pet report there.
- Register with Petco Love Lost, a free facial recognition app that scans the features of a pet’s face. With the app, you can take a photo of the cat and report it as being found.
- Cats that are lost tend to live within a few blocks of where they were found. Go door-to-door and talk with your neighbors to see if they have lost a cat or post small flyers on neighbors' doors sharing that you have found a cat in the neighborhood and give your contact information if they know who it may belong to.
- Post large flyers at major intersections around your neighborhood. Make a flyer here.
Step 4
Did you successfully find the cat’s lost owner? If so, please follow these additional steps:
- Update everyone with the good news! Remember to remove all found cat listings that you posted on our website, Facebook pages, Craigslist, Petco Love Lost, and elsewhere.
- Be a good neighbor and remove any found pet posters you may have hung around town.
- Email lostpet@greenvillecounty.org and let us know you found the cat's owner.
- If you signed up for our Lost2Found texting service, make sure you text STOP to 864-467-3950 so you no longer receive text messages.
- If any of the tips and information you received through us helped you find a lost pet's owner, please tag @GVLAnimalCare in your posts! We may just share your story to inspiration for others who may still be looking for their own lost pet.
