While there is a person for every animal, we know that not every animal is for every person. If you adopt an animal and discover that you are not compatible, you may return your pet within 30 days, satisfaction guaranteed.
Step 1: Browse Our Pets
Click on the dog and cat photos above to see animals currently available for adoption. Use the filter option to narrow down your search. Some of our pets live in foster homes and they are available for adoption, too!
Step 2: Submit An Adoption Inquiry
If you find a pet that you'd like to learn more about, click on their image. If you think they would be a good match and you'd like to visit them, you can either click on the "Apply for Adoption" button and submit an inquiry or you can visit them during our adoption walk-in hours Monday-Saturday 12pm-5pm. Submitting an inquiry does not place a hold or reservation on the pet but it does notify our team that you are interested and that you have more questions or want to set up a time to come visit.
Step 3: Meet The Pet
If the pet you're interested in is currently living at the shelter, we encourage you to come visit that pet as soon as possible. If you submitted an adoption inquiry, we will try to respond within 1-2 days. If the pet is in a foster home, we will connect you with the pet's foster family and you should get a response directly from the foster family within 1-2 days and they can set up a time for you to meet the pet.
Step 4: Determine If It’s A Good Match
When you meet the pet, our adoption counselors and foster families will tell you everything they know about the pet and help you to decide if it will be a good match for you, your pets, and your family. If it’s not a good match, that’s okay! We can help you find a better match – there are always lots of dogs and cats that need a home!
Step 5: Finalize The Adoption
The last step is the most exciting – finalize your adoption! Most pets can be taken home the same day. Some pets may need to stay at the shelter for a few more days. Our adoption team can let you know when your pet can come home with you. We do charge a small fee to adopt a pet to help us help more animals. That fee is normally $35 but sometimes we have adoption specials and the fees are waived. We have a small retail store on-site so you can get all of your basic pet supplies at the time you adopt – easy peasy! You can also make a donation to help other pets find a great home.
Step 6: Tell Your Circle Of Friends And Family
If you had a great adoption experience, please tell your friends and family and encourage them to adopt their next pet from Greenville County Animal Care. We care for thousands of dogs and cats every year and we rely on our community to help us find them all a home as amazing as yours!
