Poll Managers

We need your help! Our democracy depends on citizens taking the initiative to play an active role in the freedoms of democracy. Greenville County is calling on civic-minded individuals to work the polls on Election Day. As a worker at one of our 151 precincts, you would help fulfill the important process by which we Americans select our leaders and have a voice in Government.

If you possess a sense of dedication and pride in your work, if you are patient and enjoy working with people, if you take direction well and pay attention to detail, you may be just the person we are looking for! Please apply today to become a Poll Manager (Poll Worker).

Poll Worker/Manager Qualifications:
  • Poll Managers (except Poll Manager Assistants) must be registered to vote in South Carolina.
  • Any 16 or 17-year-old can apply to be a Poll Manager Assistant (Student Poll Worker).
  • Poll Managers may not be a candidate or the spouse, parent, child, brother, or sister of a candidate at any polling place where the candidate’s name appears on the ballot.

As a Precinct Poll Worker (Poll Manager), you are responsible for:

  • Completing the SC State Election Commission's Online Poll Manager Training (approximately 3-hours) and attending an in-person 75-minute training class. Instructions will be emailed to you
  • Assisting the precinct clerk with setting-up the polling place the day prior to the election
  • Working the entire election day, from 6:00am and remain until all closing procedures are completed (approximately 8:30pm). You must remain on-site the entire election day.
  • Transportation to and from assigned polling place within a reasonable distance of home.
  • Duties which will include voter registration qualification, activating voting machines, giving voting instructions, and maintaining orderly flow at the polling place.
  • Being nonpartisan and politically neutral while working the election.
Steps to Serve as a Poll Manager:

Step One – Apply to be a Poll Manager:

  • This adds you to our database of citizens who are interested in serving as poll managers. If you have previously applied and are already in our county’s poll worker database, you can skip this step and go to step 2.
  • If 18-years of age or older, click here to apply online.
  • If aged 16 or 17, print this application, and mail or email it to us.

  • Step Two – Complete the Online Poll Manager Commitment Agreement

    • An email containing your username and password to steps three and four will be emailed to you once your Commitment Agreement has been processed.

    Step Three Register for Your In-Person Training Class

    Step FourComplete the State Election Commission Online Training

    Step Five – Attend your in-person training class

    Step Six – Receive Your Email Containing Your Precinct Work Assignment no later than the Friday prior to the election.

    Step Seven – Assist your precinct clerk to setup at your assigned work location the afternoon/evening prior to the election

    Step Eight - Arrive at your assigned work location NO LATER than 6:00am. You will remain onsite until all closing procedures are complete (likely 8:30pm).

    Step Nine – Receive your payment check approximately 60-days after the date of the election.
