The Register of Deeds, or "ROD" is responsible for filing and maintaining all legal documents that pertain to real and personal property in Greenville County. These documents may consist of deeds, mortgages, contracts, leases, powers of attorney, plats of property, easements, and many other types of documents. They are usually the documents necessary to transfer or prove ownership of property or identify the exact location of a tract or lot of land. These records are available to title examiners and the public for research from 8:30 am to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday in Suite 1300 of County Square, located at 301 University Ridge. The ROD is an office established by the South Carolina Code and is a position elected once every 4 years by the citizens of Greenville County. The ROD office may be reached at 467.7240.
