About

Donaldson Fire Service Area was created to provide fire protection services for the South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center (SCTAC). The Board consists of five (5) members, four of whom shall be employees of industries owning or leasing property at SCTAC and one of whom shall be a member of the SCTAC. In addition, one member of Greenville County Council shall as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Board. All members shall serve four-year terms. Any person, firm, or corporation which pays at least twenty-five (25%) per cent of the property taxes levied for the support of the Donaldson Fire Service Area shall be entitled to one seat on the Board.

The board meets at the Donaldson Fire Department (2291 Perimeter Road – Donaldson Center) on the second Thursday of each month at 11:30 a.m.

Board Responsibilities:
The Board, shall have custody, possession, and control of all property, real, personal, and mixed, located at the present fire stations for SCTAC, and shall be responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and repair of all such property, the title to which shall remain in Greenville County and the City of Greenville so long as it retains an interest in SCTAC. In addition there to, the Board shall have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • To supervise the operation and maintenance of a fire protection system within SCTAC and make recommendations to Greenville County Council regarding the operation of the system.
  • To select sites of places within the service area where fire-fighting equipment shall be kept;
  • To employ all necessary fire protection personnel and recommend to County Council their compensation.
  • To supervise the training of firemen to ensure that the equipment is utilized in the best interest of SCTAC and properties located therein;
  • To be responsible for the purchase of such firefighting equipment and apparatus as it deems necessary for the purpose of controlling fires within the Donaldson Service Area;
  • To recommend to County Council such rules and regulations as it may deem proper and necessary to insure that the equipment is being used to the best advantage of SCTAC and to carry out the provisions of Chapter 19 of Title 4 of the South Carolina Code of Laws (1976), as amended.
  • To adopt its own rules of procedure and to provide for such officers as it deems necessary or advisable.
  • Except as otherwise provided herein, to do all other things, which it deems necessary for the proper management and administration of the Donaldson Fire Service Area.

It is unlawful to interfere with any member of the Donaldson Fire Department in the discharge of his duties or to interfere with any fire equipment used by the department. Any person committing such offense is subject to a fine not exceeding $200 or imprisonment not exceeding thirty days.
